New Oculus headsets account
To sign up with a Facebook account, Oculus headsets will soon require all of its virtual reality headset users. The company owned by Facebook says the removal of the support for separate Oculus account will be started in October. Although an existing account can be maintained by users until January 1st, 2023. A distinct “VR profile” can also be maintained by users with a separate friends list.
At the starting of this upcoming year, the only way to sign up for an Oculus account will be Facebook. If you already have an account, you’ll be lead to invariably merge your account. If you don’t do this, then you’ll be able to use the headset usually until 2023, which is the point when official support will be ended. Old headsets that are using non-linked accounts will still work, but some games and apps may no longer be able to access. Without social operations, developers can keep using an unlinked developer account, and the Oculus for Business platform uses a separate login process that will remain the same.
Facebook login will be required for all unreleased Oculus headsets and other devices in the future, said by Facebook. Even if you have a separate account already. In this fall The Company is widely expected to announce a new version of its Oculus headsets.
Facebook has been steadily consolidating Oculus’ platform after purchasing the company in 2014. In late 2019, New VR social features were added requiring a Facebook account and started to using data gathered through Oculus headsets in ads. The divisions shared knowledge well before that, a fact that has concerned critics of Facebook data collection practices.
In 2018, it was confirmed by Facebook that it could do things like ban linked spam accounts across different platforms, but it has rejected interfering users’ tracking behavior. And while Facebook’s targeted advertising has drawn criticism, right now, it’s not rolling out any new ads on the Oculus platform. A final layer has been removed by this new policy of separation between Oculus and Facebook accounts, though, and it forces anyone who’s not on the core Facebook service to finally sign up.
